What a gorgeous day for Eco Alley at the Chestnut Hill Garden fest yesterday! The "Alley" was busy all day with kids participating in Kiddie Yoga thanks to Deirdre of Nature Yoga, all ages enjoying the New Grass tunes of Urban Drawl, the Eco Friendly wares from Philadelphia Salvage, Stable Tables, EcoQuette and Dop Dop Designs as well as Philly Cow Share and Happy Cat Farms.
The popularity of the Book FreeCycle has destined it to become an annual event on Eco Alley! Thousands of books were donated via our friends at Valley Green Bank and taken for FREE on Eco Alley yesterday.
Thank you to all volunteers, citizens that donated books and shoes and all for coming out to say hi!

Book FreeCycle and Shoe Recycle this Sunday

Book FreeCycle and a Shoe Recycle
GReen IN Chestnut Hill (aka GRinCH) is adding a Book FreeCycle and a Shoe Recycle to this year's Eco Alley at the Garden Fest! Back by popular demand, the Book FreeCycle was a tremendous success last year. About 1,500 books were donated by residents and then taken for free on Eco Alley by anyone interested. And throngs of people were interested!
This year we are adding a Shoe Box Recycle fundraiser. ShoeBox Recycling collects gently used shoes for reuse. These shoes are ‘worn, but definitely not worn out.’ The company works hard to give your shoes a new life by:
* Providing affordable shoes to those in need
* Creating micro-enterprises for individuals throughout the world, thus fueling local economies here and abroad
* Keeps them out of the landfills, creating a cleaner, greener planet
Books and Shoes can be dropped off at the W. Highland Ave branch of Valley Green Bank beginning May 1st; this Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday 9am-1pm.
Then stop by Eco Alley, the Green Branch of the Garden Fest on W. Highland Ave, this Sunday May 5th to help yourself to interesting books for FREE!

Weavers Way EWaste event!

The Weavers Way Environment Committee is sponsoring an Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday, January 12.  From 10 am to 2 pm, the recycling will be in the parking lot behind the Valley Green Bank in Chestnut Hill at 23 West Highland Avenue.

You may bring in anything with a plug.  This includes printers, telephones, televisions, computers and much more.  It is important to recycle electronics responsibly so that these items are not sent to third world countries where children often dismantle the toxic chemicals, endangering their health as well as the environment.  Whatever you bring will be dismantled here in Philadelphia and reused.

The event is free but donations are very much appreciated.  The Environment Committee uses the donations to help fund their Grant Program.  Last year recipients included Chestnut Hill Garden District, Ogontz Library, Hope Garden at Stenton Family Manor and E. Mt. Airy Community Garden, among others.
